Newsletter March 2009

posted 19 Mar 2009, 14:48 by Chilbolton Players

Dear Friends,

The Committee hope you have enjoyed all our productions and social events which have taken place over the past months. Thank you all so much for all your hard work and support you have given.

Although the accounts for Toad have not been finalised it looks as though we have made around £600.00 profit, which is very good indeed. A final figure will be available shortly.

The next production will be Alan Ayckbourn’s “Confusions”. The dates for this are the 18th and 19th September when we hope we will not only have the new stage but also the lighting gantry and even some flats and a backdrop. We are not sure whether there is enough money for the front curtains by then but the production can go ahead without if necessary.

Rehearsals continue to be on Wednesdays in the village hall and Nicki and Maggie hope to cast the production in the next fortnight. If you are unable to take part in the September production please can you let one of them know as soon as possible?

Diary Dates

  1. 9th to 21st March – Stockbridge Amateur Dramatics production of “Third Week in August”. Apparently it is a very English comedy similar to the earlier Ayckbourn plays. It would be nice to support another local group which is so well established.
  2. The Murder Mystery event committee in Stockbridge are looking for volunteers to act as suspects and chief of police. It is on the 26thApril and the number to contact is 01264 810658 should you wish to volunteer. Details of the event are in our own village magazine.
  3. The Chilbolton Players are offering a “Promise” for the auction of promises on 24th April – why not go along and help raise the bidding??
  4. 4th June – The Players AGM in the village hall at 8.00 p.m.
  5. Friday, 12th June – Theatre trip to see “Blythe Spirit” by Noel Coward at the Haymarket Theatre in Basingstoke, 7.30 p.m. Tickets cost approx. £16 - £17 each. Numbers limited so please sign up at rehearsals or contact Maggie as soon as possible.
  6. Annual BBQ in July – either 3rd or 10th – confirmation of date and venue to follow.
  7. 18th July – Barton Stacey Juniors are putting on a production at The Lights in Andover.
As many of you know Ian, who helped back stage for Toad, runs the Barton Stacey Independent players and they have a thriving youth group of youngsters from 6 to 16. Each year this group puts on a musical at The Lights and it would be lovely to support all the hard work that Ian puts into producing and directing this show. It would also be interesting for our youngsters to see another group perform. Some of our members regularly help backstage at these productions while Ian, Den and Annie regularly help us out. Details of the show and cost to follow.
  8. We hope to have a video evening sometime in the next three months to watch Victoria’s film of Toad.

Future productions.

September 2009 – “Confusions” by Alan Ayckbourn

February half term 2010 – Pantomime.

Early July 2010 murder mystery or play.

End of November 2010 – pre Christmas production.

May 2011 (Middle) – plays of some sort.

If you are interested in having a go at directing/producing or have suggestions as to what we can perform please let one of the Committee know.

We would like to build up our archives. If you have any old programmes, photos or even scripts that are surplus to requirements please give them to either Maggie or Andrew Coombes.

Sorry this newsletter is so long but we are a busy drama group. It wasn’t so long ago that we did one production in February plus a couple of social events a year!
